Sometimes, having a camera as part of your phone is handy. These were taken last year by myself, it’s no biggie really, and the quality isn’t brilliant – but the lighting through this small bush of trees during sundown really was spectacular.

Special thanks to my girlie Louise for standing in for them… the light even poured through so much it whited out her face in one of these – which I think adds a little bit more depth and bewilderment to the fantasy of the picture.

Crystal Cave

So the theme is lighting, and I decided to tackle this by working up a rough concept image of a crystal cave.

In concept art, light is key in creating the right mood and atmosphere. This image is based on a rough idea I had of a cave lit by shafts of light pouring in through holes in the wall, this shines off large crystals, reflecting the light around the central area of the chamber. There’s a few little figures in there just to give a sense of scale to the cave! This is a basic, rough idea worked up quite quickly, but something that I could develop further at a later date.
